Free Proton Lite Download
22. March 2009 by admin.
The Lite edition of the Proton Development Suite is a special version of our fully-fledged Proton Development Suite. As a standalone product, the Lite Edition is a free and fully functional, non-expiring download which includes the Compiler, the IDE and the ISIS Simulator. Of course, because it’s a Lite Edition, there are some limitations over the Full Edition — The Lite Edition supports the following devices:
· PIC12C508: The 8-pin, 12-bit 12C508 device is arguably the best-selling microcontroller of all-time, but has now been superceded by the 14-bit 12Fxxx range.
· PIC12F675: The 8-pin, 14-bit 12F675 is one of the new breed of PICmicros® that incorporates advantages such as ADC, comparators, on-chip EEPROM and of course Flash re-programmability.
· PIC16F628A: The 18-pin, 14-bit 16F628A is the sucessor to the ever popular, but now very outdated, 16F84 device. The 16F628A offers 2KBytes of code space, 128Bytes of RAM, on-chipEEPROM, comparators, USART and hardware PWM.
· PIC16F877: The 40-pin, 14-bit 16F877 is the Rolls-Royce of the 14-bit core devices and contains 8KBytes of code space, 368Bytes of RAM, 256Bytes of on-chip EEPROM and more on-chip features than you can shake a stick at - such a USART, HPWM, etc, and is the obvious choice for any new design.
The Lite Edition also has a restriction of 50 lines of valid BASIC code. This does not include; comments, lines containing only a label, or empty lines. This, we hope, should be enough to give you a feel of just how powerful the Development Suite really is!Because of the 50 line limit, the INCLUDE directive has also been disabled. The choice of crystal frequencies is also limited to 4MHz and 20MHz, as opposed to 3.58MHz, 4MHz, 8MHz, 10MHz, 12MHz, 14.32MHz, 16MHz, 20MHz, 24MHz, 32MHz and 40MHz available with the Full Retail version of the Proton Development Suite. The Lite Edition download also contains the full Proton Development Suite’s manual in PDFformat.

FREE Segmented Display Designer GUI Now part of MPLAB® IDE
22. March 2009 by admin.
Faster development time with Segmented LCD Designer GUI
Segmented Display GUI makes it easy to generate the code needed to drive LCD displays – Just drag & drop to customize your display and the tool will generate the code for you!
Free, new and integrated features with MPLAB® IDE v8.20 or higher: www.microchip.com/mplab
Support PIC MCUs with LCD controllers for driving segmented displays including the PIC18FxxJ90 which comes in 64/80 pins and scales from 8 – 128KB Flash with up to 192 pixels.
Segmented Display Designer is MPLAB IDE Plug-in and it is listed under MPLAB IDE Tools menu. It has to be accessed from MPLAB->Tools->Segmented Display Designer. It is integrated with MPLAB IDE frame work.
Segmented Display Designer consists of following 3 pieces
1. Component Window – Allows the user to create different components
2. Components – Lists all the components that is already created
3. LCD Panel – Allows the user to design the LCD Panel with the components already created
Segment Designer Plug-in provides the building blocks for the creation of the components including:
– Rectangular Segments
– Rounded Rectangular Segments
– Circular Segment
– Diagonal Segments
– Text Component
– Graph (PIE and Bar)
– Hollow Segments
– Numeric Display Component
